Riverview Baptist Church

Sunday Activities

In addition to the morning worship service at 10.30, Bible studies and classes for all ages are available beginning at 9.00.

Adult Summer Sunday School: Grasping God's Word
Do you often find yourself confused when you read the Bible? Do you sometimes have a hard time understanding its meaning? This hands-on approach to studying Scripture helps those who want to get the most out of reading the Bible by getting a grip on how to read, interpret, and apply God's Word. Learn how to carefully read Scripture in the biblical context, and to dig deeper into the Word of God so you will be able to understand the Bible correctly and apply its meaning to your life. The first several lessons of this class will be spent learning how to study God's word, and then for the final month we will put what we have learned into practice by studying the books of Ruth and Titus. This class meets in the Overflow Room.

Adult Summer Sunday School: Mere Christianity
This course will focus on C. S. Lewis' Mere Christianity, one of the most popular introductions to the Christian faith ever written. Lewis explains and defends the beliefs that have been common to nearly all Christians at all times, and in the process presents a powerful, rational case for the Christian faith. The course will cover two to three of the short chapters of Lewis' work each week, and will be helpful for anyone who wishes to deepen their understanding of the fundamentals of the faith and equip themselves with sound arguments in defense of the faith. This class meets in the Fellowship Hall.

Adult Summer Sunday School: Heavenly Hymn Sing
Colossians 3.16 says, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God." Last summer several of you participated in this class and had a wonderful time singing, sharing, and learning. Join us again this summer as we once again "mingle music with words from the heart" by singing, listening to God's Word, the testimonies of others, and sharing fellowship with each other. Come prepared to make a joyful noise! This class meets in the Fireside Room.

Youth Sunday School: Teach Me Your Way
Jr. and Sr. High youth are invited to join Lundon and Sarah at 9.00 for Sunday School in the Youth Room. What is life all about? Surrendering to Jesus and submitting our minds, hearts, and wills to His way. We'll be looking at Jesus' "way" by studying Matthew 5-7. We'll look at what it means to truly worship God the Creator, and what it means to value Jesus above all other things the world can offer.

Children's Sunday School: Children Desiring God – He Has Spoken By His Son (Preschool 2-3, 4-5)
The New Testament beautifully unfolds the wonder and power of Jesus Christ. This curriculum explores the greatness of God in Christ by noting key themes found chronologically throughout the New Testament. Teachers prepare the lesson through the study of scripture using a list of key themes, opening illustrations, and application questions to acquaint children with a great God who has spoken by His Son.

Children's Sunday School: Children Desiring God – Jesus, What A Savior! (Kindergarten)
We were created to enjoy the glory of God. But as sinners we fail to treasure Him as we should. Our hearts are full of sin and we stand in need of a Savior. This chronological study on redemption explores the incomparable greatness and worth of God, the desperate condition of helpless sinners, and the all-sufficient work of Jesus Christ to redeem sinful people.

Children's Sunday School: Children Desiring God – The ABC's Of God (1st and 2nd Grade)
Right thinking about God is essential for the life of faith. Using the alphabet as a framework for teaching the attributes of God, this study explores the delight that God has in Himself as the source, means, and purpose of all things. Each lesson asks and answers three key questions, "Who is God?" "What is He like?" and "How should I act toward Him?" as it presents a theology of God for children.

Children's Sunday School: Children Desiring God – To Be Like Jesus (3rd and 4th Grade)
What is salvation? How does someone become a Christian? What does it mean to become like Jesus? This curriculum helps answer these important questions by explaining elements of the Gospel message, its purpose, and promise. A major portion of this study focuses on the doctrine of sanctification - the process by which a Christian becomes more and more conformed to the likeness of Jesus.

Children's Sunday School: Children Desiring God – How Majestic Is Your Name (5th and 6th Grade)
The names of God are wonderful revelations of His majestic character. This study presents the Hebrew names of God in the Old Testament and the names of Christ and the Holy Spirit in the New Testament. Each lesson encourages children to see and rejoice in the goodness and greatness of God as they explore the meaning of His glorious names.

Children's Church: Bible Kids
Bible Kids seeks to provide kids age 2 through kindergarten with a solid foundation in the scriptures. Kids will learn Bible stories while also learning what they mean and how they can apply specifically to their young lives. Kids also will begin to see the "big picture" of the Bible, and see that the Bible is where we learn about God, Jesus, and ourselves. Bible Kids meets in the Nursery Wing at 10:30 AM.

Fuel: Young Adult Bible Study (Seven Sunday Nites)
All young adults are invited to join us for Bible study and discussion on Sunday nights (as well as special events throughout the months-check us out for more info!). We're learning how to share our faith with our friends, family, and basically anyone we come into contact with. Learn to share your faith effectively and biblically! Plus we usually have stuff to eat and drink. You can't lose! Also jump by our facebook group.

Wednesday Nights This Summer Join us on Wednesday nights this summer at 6.00 PM, beginning June 9th, as we work to "reveal the mysteries" of heaven. This series will look at and clarify some of the biggest questions about heaven Christians have about their future eternal home. Pastor David Jeremiah provides answers to questions about the nature of heaven, the kinds of bodies heaven's occupants will have, why heaven will never be boring, why infants and small children will go to heaven, and the dwelling place God is preparing for Christians in heaven. Each week we'll watch a video that addresses these questions and more, and talk about what we’ve learned.

Wednesday Night is Family Night with activities for the entire family. Join us every Wednesday night (September-May) at 5.15 in the fellowship hall as we start out our family night activities by sharing a meal together. Whether it's pizza, spaghetti, or turkey and mashed potatoes, you're guaranteed to get a good, wholesome meal. A donation of $4.00 per person or $10 per family is suggested. Following dinner, and running from 6.00 until 7.30 are options for all ages.

Prayer Meeting meets 6-7.00 PM on Wednesdays. Join our informal group each week as we spend time in prayer for the needs of the congregation and study our way through the book of Exodus.

Women's Bible Study meets 6-7.00 PM on Wednesdays. All women are invited to participate in a study of the books of first and second Peter. Peter probably wrote these books to warn the beloved believers in Christ about the false teachers and doctrinal dangers they would be facing without him. Today these letters encourage us also to stand strong in the face of troubles and trials. Join us for these and other in-depth studies throughout the course of the year.

Men's Bible Study meets 6-7.00 PM on Wednesdays. All men are invited to participate in a study of the book of James. Is your faith in God real? If you've ever wanted to evaluate your faith in God, James is the right book. James doesn't teach a works-based salvation, but rather a salvation that works. Others can see authentic faith by the way you respond to the trials and temptations of life. Through this study, you'll understand the importance of living out your faith in tangible expressions of love for God and service to others.

Jr. and Sr. High Youth meet every Wednesday (6-7.30 PM) to have fun, play games, hang out, listen to music, and study the word. Check it out! You're guaranteed to have a blast. The youth also participate in several special events, camps, retreats, and service projects throughout the year. Ministry opportunities, camps, retreats, and social opportunities are planned regularly. Visit the youth page for more details about Riverview's youth ministry program.

Pioneer Girls is elementary age girls meeting together to develop friendships and relationships with other girls, leaders, and Jesus through Bible study and activities. Girls can earn badges by participating in Bible studies, scripture memory, and fun life-skills activities that make each meeting memorable and full of fun.
Boys Brigade provides an opportunity for men to mentor elementary age boys through action packed and fun games and activities that involve physical, mental, social, and spiritual growth experiences. Through stockade, boys come to know God, know his word, and begin to mature as believers.

The Sanctuary Choir (rehearsal 7-8.30 PM) provides traditional style anthems at most morning worship services September through May. It is not too late to be a part of this anointed ministry. Come and join us in making a joyful noise. We have openings in all parts. Willing instrumentalists are also encouraged to accompany the choir. Contact choir director Cheryl Reeves if interested.

Some Additional Opportunities take place at various times throughout the week. Please check the calendar for updated times and locations.
