Music Ministry at Riverview
Riverview has a long history of music and seeks to continue to faithfully serve the Lord and his people with the gifts and abilities he gives its members. We also recognize the importance of music in Scripture for the praise of our God and the teaching of the saints. In light of our history, abilities, and Scripture's theology of music, we regularly practice and use the musical instruments and voices he gives us to the best of our abilities to the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul. If you share this same desire to worship God through music, we'd be delighted to have you join us in using your gifts of music for worshiping God in a regular gathering of believers.
Riverview's worship choir is a body of worship leaders dedicated to giving thanks to God through song and leading our congregation in praise. We lead Sunday morning worship and present special music songs and events throughout the year.
How to Join the Worship Choir:
Come to a Wednesday night rehearsal and we'll walk you through the ins and outs of the ministry. No need for an audition or previous choir experience, though those can certainly help. Other than being at least 12 years old, the only requirements are a desire for worshiping God, a willingness to learn, and a desire for excellence before the Lord. And if you're not sure about any of those, come talk to us and we'll help point you toward the Lord in the choir or elsewhere with whatever gifts you do have.
Wednesdays: 7:30-8:30 pm in the sanctuary
Sundays: 10:15 am in the Fireside Room to warm up for the service
The worship band is a key part of our weekly and special events. This group is composed of individuals committed to serving the church with their instrument on a regular basis. Although every musician won't play every week, the worship band does serve the church in every Sunday morning gathering. If you are a member or regular attender with an interest in serving as part of the worship team in this way, please talk to Pastor Richard to set up an audition.
Lead vocalists are a part of the worship team who are drawn from the worship choir ranks and help the congregation clearly hear the melody and some harmonies within the support of the worship choir. As such, these vocalists require a higher degree of commitment and ability in order to serve the congregation well. If you are interested in serving in this way, join the worship choir and talk to Pastor Richard about your interest to set up an audition.
Other Areas of Service in music ministry
While the worship choir occasionally sings during the offertory, there are still many opportunities for individuals to bring their gift before the congregation for their communal worship. This has included a wide variety of talents from puppets and signing to ensembles and soloists. If you have a song or talent that you are interested in sharing with the congregation to this end, please talk to Pastor Richard to figure out if and when you can offer that service to the church body.
Special Events and Concerts
At Riverview, we often have concerts and special events that use music for declaring the gospel, especially around the holidays. Often this requires a fair degree of manpower, from stage hands and tech crew to soloists and musicians. If you have an interest or skills in this area, Pastor Richard would be glad to talk to you and see where you might be able to fit into any upcoming events for the season.
